Meet Birdy, a 7-year-old, spayed pitbull mix with a beautiful face and a heart to match! This adventurous girl is just as happy curling up right next to you on the couch for a lazy day as she is hitting the trails on a mountain hike or cruising around town in the car (she's a huge fan of car rides!). Birdy is house-trained, knows sit and down, comes when called and is an absolute love bug who adores her toys and snuggling close to her favorite people. She does great on walks and gets along fine with other dogs she meets out and about, but she's looking for a home where she can be the only pet and have all the attention to herself. A few things to know: Birdy eats a hydrolyzed diet for some food sensitivities, has a bit of arthritis in her hips that doesn't slow her down one bit and can get anxious during storms (easily managed with her person by her side or with medication when needed) — but none of that stops this joyful girl from living her best life every day! Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
