If you want to skip straight to the application: .carolinapoodlerescue/application/ Here’s Your Quick Peek: Bella is a gentle, sensitive Standard Poodle who is still learning how to be a companion dog. She has made real progress with consistent human interaction, but she will still need a long time before she resembles the kind of social, confident dog most adopters are used to. She is blossoming slowly, and her adopter must be committed to patient, force‑free guidance. Must have: A quiet, adult‑only home with a fenced yard and another confident dog. Exercise: Light to moderate — yard time, gentle exploration. Best with: Calm adopters who understand shy dogs and celebrate small steps. Not ideal for: Busy homes, children, or adopters seeking an instantly social dog. Energy level: Low to moderate — gentle, observant, and playful with other dogs. Bella now walks very well on leash, a huge milestone for her. She is still learning spatial awareness and may dart through doorways, bump into legs, or knock into people when unsure or excited. She is also still learning grooming and needs significant desensitization, especially with her feet and rear end. Bella thrives with other dogs — they bring out her confidence, joy, and playfulness. She is shy with people but warms up slowly and steadily with patience. Good with dogs: Yes — must have a canine companion. Good with kids: No. Cats: Unknown. Fun fact: Bella’s confidence blooms the most when she’s with other dogs — they help her feel safe enough to explore, play, and show her true personality. Potential Adopters Dogs can’t drive - and since we’re busy taking care of them, we can’t either! Please check your potential BFF’s location and make sure you’re comfortable traveling to meet them. Overview:
The Standard Poodle is a captivating and highly intelligent breed with a rich history, believed to have originated in Germany as a water retriever before being refined in France. Renowned for their distinctive, dense, and curly coat—which is virtually non-shedding, making them a great choice for allergy sufferers—they are elegant and athletic dogs. Physically, they possess a proud carriage, a long muzzle, and dark, expressive eyes, typically weighing between 45-70 pounds. Their temperament is characterized by being highly intelligent, easily trainable, and generally good-natured, though they require mental stimulation to prevent boredom. Standard Poodles are surprisingly adaptable, thriving in active families and even adapting well to apartment living provided they receive adequate exercise and mental engagement. While generally healthy, owners should be aware of potential health concerns like hip dysplasia, bloat, and eye conditions. Their combination of brains, beauty, and biddability makes them a truly versatile and rewarding companion.
