Diamond has lived with cats in a previous foster home. We haven't seen her with kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters! Currently Living at: DC area foster home Heartworm information: Diamond is a truly Lucky Dog. She tested positive for heartworms, but landed in a place where heartworm treatment is provided! Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites. Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. Heartworm dogs can resume full active and normal lives, but need to be kept calm for 4-6 weeks after treatment. We are happy to discuss where in the treatment process this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left! Diamond is Looking For: Her final and forever home. She’s done great with house-training and does a great job letting you know when she needs to go outside. Diamond has also wonderful with crate training, settling in happily with a little treat and sleeping soundly through the night. She has an adorable mix of energy and relaxation—she enjoys her zoomies and staying active, but is just as happy to curl up for a nap by your feet. She’s also a quick learner who picked up her walking routine in no time! Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
