Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed (medium coat). Meet Benji! Benji is a 5 month old puppy who weighs 18 pounds and has the perfect balance of playful energy and affectionate cuddles. He loves playing with other dogs, enjoys spending time with kids, and is happiest when he is with his people. While he would certainly enjoy having canine or kid companions, he has also done very well in his foster home without them. He especially looks forward to visits with the neighborhood kids and playtime with dogs at the park. After a good play session, Benji is more than happy to curl up for a nap or snuggle beside you on the couch. Like any puppy his age, he is teething, so he loves chewing on a Greenie or carrying around his favorite Kong toy. He is at that fun stage where every day brings something new to learn and explore. Benji is a sweet, happy puppy who is ready to become a beloved member of a forever family. Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
