Foster Home Feedback 8/2/26 Foster Feedback: We've had Meeko for a little over two weeks, and here are some updates! Meeko has now met both a cat and a toddler and did well with each. The toddler's loud noises and running around made him a little nervous, but he was still brave and curious enough to approach her. He was very interested in the cat and wanted to find him, but the cat chose to hide, so they never had a face-to-face introduction. Meeko wasn't a fan of walking on a leash attached to his collar, but he does great when wearing a harness. He also discovered the rabbit holes under our fence and became a little too interested in exploring them! Because of that, he now spends time in the backyard on a harness and long lead, which allows him to safely enjoy the yard without constant supervision. It also seems like he really wants to meet the neighbor dogs on the other side of the fence. His fun personality is really starting to shine! Meeko absolutely loves playing with our dogs and is beginning to enjoy toys and interactive play with my spouse and me. One of our favorite things is to "dance" with him. He gets so excited that he stands up on his back legs, spins around, and does the cutest little happy dances. I recently hosted book club with a handful of ladies, and Meeko handled it very well. He barked briefly when everyone first arrived, then kept a safe distance while he assessed the situation. Before long, he had warmed up to everyone and was happily asking for pets and giving kisses. Speaking of kisses... Meeko is definitely a licker! Toes, legs, hands, faces—if he loves you, expect lots of kisses. Meeko is making great progress with potty training, but adopters should be prepared to start fresh when he goes to a new home, as he'll need time to learn a new environment and routine. His marking has also decreased significantly. With patience, consistency, and a regular schedule, I truly believe he can be fully house-trained. Car rides are still a little scary for Meeko, but he's slowly improving with each trip. He does best when he can sit with a passenger. If only the driver is in the car, he should be safely crated or secured with a pet seat belt, as he'll otherwise try to climb onto the driver's lap. Finally, Meeko is the definition of a lap dog. If he's not playing with the other dogs, he's curled up in someone's lap. At bedtime, he loves to snuggle as close as possible and does the sweetest thing where he tucks himself under the blankets like he's putting himself to bed. It's absolutely adorable! 7/26/26 Foster Feedback: This sweet little guy is a huge snuggler who loves being close to his people and especially other dogs. He would thrive in a home with another friendly dog who enjoys cuddling and playing, as canine companionship is one of his favorite things. He's also becoming more playful with his foster family every day and absolutely loves giving kisses. He's still working on house training. At this time, he wears a belly band indoors because he does mark. The marking is decreasing with time and now that he is neutered this should continue to improve. With a consistent routine, patience, and positive reinforcement, I believe he'll become potty trained. He has been incredibly gentle and cooperative during nail trims, baths, and vaccinations, making grooming and veterinary visits very easy. He is a big fan of people food and has no concept of personal boundaries when you're eating or drinking. He's currently learning polite manners around mealtime. He's a timid boy who can be randomly startled by things or fearful with new experiences like riding in a car. When he's scared, he may bark, but it hasn't been excessive. He'll do best with a patient adopter who can continue helping him build confidence and learnthat the world isn't such a scary place. He has been very vocal when left alone. When I checked my camera over a three-hour period, he spent much of the time whining, crying, or barking. For that reason, I don't think a home with shared walls, such as an apartment or condo, would be the best fit while he continues working through his separation concerns. He's happiest curled up in a dog bed or snoozing on my lap while I work from home. He truly loves being near his people. When interacting with other dogs, he loves to play and cuddle, but he's still learning to respect when another dog is finished playing, grooming, or snuggling. We currently step in and give everyone breaks to prevent conflicts, and he's making progress. He's also adjusting to eating dog food and is more enthusiastic about meals when a small amount of peanut butter is mixed in. He’s still getting used to wearing a collar as well. Overall, he's a loving, gentle little companion looking for a patient family that will help him continue building confidence. In return, you'll have a loyal lap dog who adores giving kisses, cuddling with his people, and playing with his canine friends.
