Dog Breed: Chihuahua (short coat). Adoption Fee: 200. ATTENTION: All of our dogs are in private foster homes. We do NOT have a kennel with multiple dogs. If you find a dog you want to meet in person, please go to .secondchancedogrescue and complete an application. We will make every attempt to process all applications within 3 business days of receipt. // // Meet Estrella! Estrella is a sweet and calm 7 lb., 10 year old chihuahua who is doing so well at her foster home! She loves to eat, investigate the yard in usual chihuahua style, and has had no accidents in the house. She has learned to head outside first thing in the morning to go potty, comes inside to eat her breakfast and take her medication (a single tiny 1/2 pill for arthritis) and then usually goes potty once more before settling in for the day. She has been eating again in the evening just to help her put on a little weight and she also has access to dry food to free-feed from, which she does without overdoing it! She has done absolutely great being left alone with another foster pup and the resident dog (another chihuahua). She sleeps through the night without issue and has found multiple comfortable beds around the house to nap on. She has not barked once! She loves treats, too! She is an easy, low-key dog who will do great with other dogs and a family that is gentle with her and lets her figure things out on her own with a little help here and there. Estrella is spayed, microchipped and up to date on her vaccines. Her adoption fee is $200. All Second Chance Dog Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, are up to date on vaccines and have microchips prior to adoption. Adoption fees vary depending on age of dog. Fees help Second Chance Dog Rescue cover spay/neuter costs, vaccinations, medical treatments, food and supplies. Please go to .secondchancedogrescue and complete an application today! Physically, they are easily recognizable by their small, compact bodies, large expressive eyes, and erect ears, appearing in both smooth and long-coated varieties, showcasing a vast array of colors and markings. Despite their tiny stature, Chihuahuas possess a big personality; they are often described as spirited, alert, and fiercely loyal to their owners, sometimes displaying a bold and confident demeanor. While their small size makes them exceptionally well-suited for apartment living, they thrive in homes where they receive ample attention and mental stimulation. They can be good family pets for older children who understand how to interact gently with a small dog, but their delicate build makes them less suitable for boisterous toddlers. Regarding health, Chihuahuas can be prone to certain conditions like patellar luxation, heart problems, and dental issues, making regular veterinary check-ups crucial for their well-being.
