Description
Dog Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: $300. Samie: Smart, Dog-Friendly, and Ready for Forever! Hi, I'm Samie! At 18 months old and 28 pounds, I am a great medium-sized companion—small enough for your lap, but sturdy enough to run and play with the big dogs. I am naturally easygoing, smart, and eager to please. I absolutely love squeaky toys, puzzles, and enrichment games. Treats? I have zero standards and maximum enthusiasm. I rarely meet a snack, apple slice, or blueberry I don’t love, which makes training a great bonding activity for us. I am fantastic with other dogs and have a respectful play style. I am also great on the go—I enjoy car rides, travel well in my crate, and love making new friends. Like any young dog, I am still fine-tuning my leash manners and recall, and I occasionally look to my person for reassurance in brand-new situations. Otherwise, I try to take things in stride and adapt easily. Inside the house, I am an excellent roommate. I am crate-trained, content to nap for hours, and I already know how to use a doggy door. If your home doesn't have a doggy door, I just need a human who is consistent about letting me out to do my business, and I am good to go! Here are fast facts: Samie is an Australian Cattle dog mix, 18 months old and full grown at about 28 pounds. He interacts excellently with other dogs. His compatibility with cats and young children is unknown as he has not been tested with them yet. He is neutered, microchipped, and fully vaccinated. Samie is a best friend with a huge heart. We don’t know much about his past other than the fact that when he was found as a small puppy, he had a skin infection. It's all cleared up now, but it did leave him with scarring on his face. Some people think those markings are scary, but they don't both Samie! He shows up every day with a wagging tail, eager spirit and a total willingness to connect. He will thrive with a kind, encouraging human who uses positive reinforcement to show him the ropes! Apply today at bit.ly/RRAdoptionApplication

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
