Description
Dog Breed: Presa Canario (medium coat). Meet Savannah! Savannah is a beautiful 7-year-old Presa Canario with a heart as big as she is! This sweet, gentle girl is looking for a loving family to spend her golden years with. She has a calm and affectionate personality and enjoys being around people, making her a wonderful companion for someone looking for a loyal best friend. Savannah is ready to fill her new home with love, cuddles, and plenty of tail wags. Whether it's relaxing by your side or enjoying a leisurely stroll, she's happiest when she's spending time with her people. Savannah does have some dental concerns that will require a follow-up dental procedure. The good news is that if she is adopted before this is completed, she will return to the shelter for her dental appointment at a scheduled time. If you're looking for a kind-hearted, affectionate companion to welcome into your family, Savannah may be the perfect match. Come meet this lovely girl and see just how special she is! Please give us a call at the North Shelter 416-338-PAWS(8723) between the hours of 10:30am-6:30pm and we can give you some further information.

Overview:
The Presa Canario, also known as the Canary Mastiff, is a large and powerful breed originating from the Canary Islands of Spain, where it was historically used for guarding livestock and property. Physically, they are imposing with a mastiff-type build, a broad head, and a short, dense coat typically in fawn, brindle, or black. Temperamentally, a well-socialized Presa Canario is known for its calm, confident, and loyal nature, making them devoted protectors of their family. However, their strong protective instincts and size mean they are generally not recommended for first-time dog owners or apartment living, requiring experienced handling, extensive socialization from a young age, and a secure, spacious environment. While generally robust, they can be prone to common large-breed health issues such as hip and elbow dysplasia and certain heart conditions, necessitating regular veterinary check-ups and a high-quality diet.
