Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier (medium coat). Powered by Treats & Affection Meet Red—A Little Treat-Loving Lovebug! Red is a bubbly, affectionate girl who seems happiest when she's out of her kennel and right beside her person. She may not care much about toys, but offer her a treat and you've got her full attention! She knows `sit,` although when excitement takes over, she'll add an adorable little hop to her performance. Apparently, sitting is better with choreography. Red is wonderful on leash and loves going for walks. She's energetic and playful in the yard, but settles into a nice walking rhythm once she's out exploring. Red is sensitive to heat, so she'd appreciate early morning or evening adventures during warm weather. She did not react to the dog in the adjoining yard and seemed friendly and curious, although she does have a strong interest in squirrels. This girl is all about affection. She'll happily lick your hand or arm as her way of saying, `I love you!` She also soaks up pets and attention whenever she can. Red appreciates a calm, gentle approach and a little time to take in new things, and she quickly settles back into her happy, affectionate self. Because of her enthusiasm and energy, older kids or teens may be a better fit than very young children. If you're looking for a fun, affectionate walking buddy with a serious sweet tooth, Red is ready to brighten your days! To meet me, visit the Bradshaw Animal Shelter Tuesday-Sunday, Noon - 5:00 pm, Wednesdays, Noon - 6:00 pm. All adoptions are on a first-come, first-served basis. To help expedite the meet and greet process, please make note of my Animal ID number, and those of other dogs you might be interested in meeting. Be sure to bring your ID with you, too. Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
