Description
Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Terrier / Mixed. If you're looking for a best friend who will be by your side through every adventure, Oscar is ready to apply for the job! This handsome 1-year-old Pit Bull/Lab mix (best guess!) is a happy, affectionate boy who loves people, enjoys making new dog friends, and is always excited for whatever the day has in store. At around 60 pounds, he's the perfect companion for an active family. Oscar settled into his foster home quickly. After a brief shy introduction, his playful, goofy personality came shining through. He loves sniff walks, romping with other dogs, chewing on a favorite bone, and carrying around his beloved blue bull toy. After a fun day of adventures, you'll often catch him snoozing on the couch, complete with adorable snores and the cutest little tongue sticking out of the side of his mouth. This smart boy is house trained and enjoys learning new routines. He is currently working on leash manners and making great progress every day. Oscar would love a home where he can continue building his confidence and enjoying plenty of exercise, especially his favorite sniff walks. While he has done well without a fenced yard, he would certainly enjoy having one to safely stretch his legs. Oscar absolutely loves other dogs and would thrive with a playful canine companion, although it is not required. He has also done well meeting cats with slow introductions and respectful supervision. He has enjoyed spending time with teenagers and is eager to make friends with everyone he meets. After spending several months in a shelter, Oscar developed separation anxiety and feels happiest when he's close to his people. His foster family has already seen wonderful improvement with a consistent routine, training, anxiety medication, and an impact crate, and he continues to gain confidence every day. He would do best with a family that can continue helping him feel secure as he settles into his forever home. A household where someone is home often, or where he has a canine companion, would help set him up for success. Oscar has so much love to give and is ready to reward his forever family with endless loyalty, laughter, and companionship. If you're searching for a fun, affectionate shadow who will happily join you on walks, cuddle on the couch, and brighten every day, Oscar just might be your perfect match. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
