Description
Dog Breed: Great Dane. Location: Dallas, TX DOB: 8/1/24 Caden is a stunning, extra-large Great Dane with a rare mantle merle coat and an even bigger personality. At around two years old, this handsome boy came to us from an animal cruelty case in heartbreaking condition — severely emaciated and fighting to survive. Since then, he has made an incredible recovery. He is now fully vetted and neutered and continues to gain strength and healthy weight every day. He’s still building muscle in his rear hips, but with good nutrition and time, we expect him to continue thriving. Caden is a high-energy, playful boy who absolutely loves life. He enjoys running, jumping, spinning in circles, and playing with other dogs. He has lived successfully with up to ten dogs at once and does wonderfully with both large and small dogs. While he can be a confident, dominant male, he is very well-mannered and listens beautifully. With new people, Caden just needs a little time to warm up. Once he trusts you, he becomes incredibly affectionate and loving. He enjoys cuddling close, resting his head on you, or tucking it under your neck for comfort. Because of his past trauma, Caden is not crate trained and should never be crated. He spent much of his life confined and nearly starved to death before rescue, arriving to us at a body condition score of just 1/10. Despite that difficult past, he is wonderfully behaved in the home and is non-destructive when left loose. He is house trained, rides great in the car, and would love a forever home with at least one playful dog companion. Caden would do best in a patient, active home with older children (13+) who understand how to respect his space. Cats are unknown. Most of all, he’s looking for a family that will continue helping him heal and show him the safe, loving life he has always deserved. Overview:
The Great Dane is an impressive and regal breed, often dubbed the "Apollo of Dogs" for its dignified stature and noble appearance. Originating in Germany, where it was historically bred for hunting boar, this giant breed is renowned for its immense size and striking presence. Physically, Great Danes are characterized by their tall, muscular build, short coat (available in various colors like fawn, brindle, black, blue, and harlequin), and expressive eyes. Despite their formidable size, they possess a surprisingly gentle and affectionate temperament, making them wonderful family companions. They are known for being patient with children and generally get along well with other pets. While their size might suggest otherwise, Great Danes can adapt to apartment living if provided with sufficient daily exercise, as they are not overly energetic indoors. However, prospective owners should be aware of certain health considerations, including a predisposition to bloat (gastric dilatation-volvulus), hip dysplasia, and certain heart conditions, necessitating careful breeding and regular veterinary check-ups. Overall, a Great Dane offers a loving and loyal addition to the right home.
