Meet Aquamarine, a 9-month-old, 34-pound brindle-and-white Pit Bull Terrier who is every bit as bright and sparkly as her name. Aquamarine is a little social butterfly who wants to say hello to everyoneâpeople, dogs, new friends she hasn't even met yet... she's ready for them all! She's also one smart cookie. Aquamarine picks up new tricks quickly, especially when treats are involved. Trust us, she LOVES treats. If you've got snacks, you've already got her attention. She's the perfect combination of snuggle bug and playful puppy. One minute she's cuddled up soaking in affection, and the next she's zooming around, playing and investigating everything around her. She's incredibly curious and seems to believe the whole world was created specifically for her to explore. Then there are the sticks. Aquamarine takes her stick-finding responsibilities very seriously. If there's a good chewing stick nearby, chances are she'll find it. She's licky. She's jumpy. She's enthusiastic. She's still learning her manners but at only 9 months old, that's all part of being a puppy! Underneath all that puppy silliness is an affectionate, intelligent little girl who is eager to learn and absolutely loves being with people. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
