If we do not receive a timely response we simply move on to another applicant. And please wait for our response as we schedule appointments to meet our pets. Pet info, adoption cost/detail information below: PET DESCRIPTION: Buster is a male Dachshund, thinking he is ten or so years old, 13 lbs, came to us as a stray never reclaimed. He is a very low-key boy, sweet, happy to just chill. Good with the older small dogs in our office but did not seem to like the one male that was only two years old and he made it clear he didn't like him so best for him to meet any potential buddy. Good with cats. Adult only home please as a bit of a nervous fella so no small children. He is not housetrained but has improved while in our office. DOG ADOPTION FEE is $100. This Adoption fee includes: mandatory spay/neuter which will be done before you can take your dog or puppy home with you; basic canine immunizations (DHPP-CPV & Bordatella Intranasal); de-wormings; one-year rabies vaccination if old enough; heartworm test if over five months old; microchip from 24-Pet Watch (and we register the chip at time of the adoption); certificate for free health examination at your participating veterinarian; and a goodie bag chocked full of information, toys, and more. (If a dog is sponsored or has a waived or lower fee, that info will be provided at the point of adoption to the approved adopter). Overview:
The Dachshund, affectionately known as the "wiener dog," is a fascinating breed originating in Germany, primarily bred to hunt badgers and other burrowing animals. Their most distinctive physical characteristic is their long, low-slung body and short, muscular legs, a feature perfectly adapted for tunneling. They come in three coat types – smooth, longhaired, and wirehaired – and various sizes, from miniature to standard. Temperamentally, Dachshunds are known for being courageous, curious, and often quite playful, with a surprising amount of energy. While they are intelligent, their independent nature can make training a delightful challenge. Their small size and relatively low exercise requirements make them well-suited for apartment living, and they can be wonderful companions for families, though early socialization is key, especially with children and other pets. Regarding health, their unique body shape predisposes them to intervertebral disc disease (IVDD), so careful handling and weight management are crucial.
