Description
Dog Breed: Australian Shepherd. *Name: Fern *Age: 4 months old *Current Weight: 25 lbs *Adoption fee: $550 (plus $150 spay/neuter deposit, see below for more information) Meet Fern, the perfect mix of energy and chill. She is part of a litter of 6 puppies surrendered by a family that was not prepared for them. Both parents are purebred Aussies, mom is on the smaller side around 37 pounds and dad was around 52 pounds. These guys come from working lines and will need active families. Fern loves her play time, especially with squeaky toys, but is just as happy afterward to curl up next to you for movies and snacks. She loves snacks as much as any other Aussie and will gladly work for her food. She is incredibly smart, but also a little stubborn. This little girl is Aussie through and through and uses her brain to problem solve. She will make a great dog for someone willing to work with her. She is crate trained and working on house breaking. She is up to date on vaccinations and has been dewormed. IMPORTANT: This dog has not yet been altered. SNARR requires a $150 deposit in addition to your adoption fee, as well as a strictly enforced Spay/Neuter Contract stating you will have this dog altered within 6 months of adoption. The $150 deposit will be returned once the contract has been fulfilled. To apply to adopt, fill out an application at snarrnortheast/adopt/ PLEASE CLICK HERE FOR FAQs

Overview:
The Australian Shepherd, despite its name, actually originated in the western United States during the 19th century, bred primarily for herding livestock on ranches. These striking dogs are medium-sized with a sturdy build, often sporting captivating merle coats (blue or red) and piercing blue, amber, or marbled eyes, sometimes with two different colors (heterochromia). Known for their exceptional intelligence and high energy, Aussies possess a strong work drive and thrive on having a "job" to do, whether it's agility, obedience, or extensive exercise. Their temperament is generally loyal, affectionate, and good-natured with their families, though they can be reserved with strangers. Due to their high exercise requirements and need for mental stimulation, they are best suited for active families or individuals with ample outdoor space and a commitment to training; apartment living is generally not ideal. Potential owners should also be aware of common health concerns like hip and elbow dysplasia and certain eye conditions, including Collie Eye Anomaly (CEA) and Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA).
