Dog Breed: Border Collie (medium coat). Adoption Fee: $250. Meet Little Willow Breed: Border Collie Mix Age: 3 years, 9 months Sex: Female Weight: 65 lbs About Little Willow Shy and reserved when meeting new people and dogs, but blossoms with patience and trust Playful, goofy, and affectionate once she feels comfortable Loves spending time with her people and soaking up pets Fully house-trained and crate-trained Quiet and well-behaved in her kennel both during the day and at night Loves Daily walks and outdoor adventures Belly rubs, pets, and attention from her favorite people Showing her affection with plenty of kisses Letting her goofy personality shine once she feels at home What to Know Can live successfully with another dog after slow, proper introductions, but she doesn't need another pet to be happy and would do great as an only dog. No cats or small animals due to her instinct to chase them Looking for a patient family that will give her time to build confidence and settle in Not a fan of frequent car rides and may experience motion sickness Needs a little time to warm up, but the reward is a loyal, loving best friend Why You'll Love Her: Little Willow may be shy at first, but underneath that cautious exterior is a goofy, loyal, and loving companion. Once you've earned her trust, she'll happily join you on walks, soak up all the pets you can give, and shower you with kisses. If you're looking for a sweet best friend who will blossom with patience and love, Little Willow is ready to meet you! bit.ly/RRAdoptionApplication

Overview:
The Border Collie is a highly intelligent and energetic herding dog, originating from the Anglo-Scottish border region where they were bred for their exceptional sheep-gathering abilities. Physically, they are medium-sized dogs with an athletic build, typically weighing between 30-55 pounds, and feature a double coat that can be rough or smooth, appearing in a wide variety of colors, though black and white is most common. Their alert, intense gaze is a hallmark of the breed. Temperamentally, Border Collies are renowned for their incredible trainability, eagerness to please, and boundless energy, making them excellent candidates for dog sports like agility and obedience. However, this high drive means they require significant mental and physical stimulation; without proper outlets, they can become bored and destructive. While loyal and affectionate with their families, their herding instincts can sometimes translate to nipping at children or other pets if not managed, making them generally better suited for experienced owners who can dedicate time to their training and exercise needs. They are definitely not suited for apartment living and thrive in homes with large, secure yards and active lifestyles. Health-wise, they are generally robust, but can be prone to certain genetic conditions such as Collie Eye Anomaly (CEA), hip and elbow dysplasia, and Trapped Neutrophil Syndrome (TNS).
