Description
Dog Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). Adoption Fee: 300.00. The less than happy details: Twister was shot at some point with a small caliber and displays limited hearing and a head tilt on his left side. It is unknown how long he was a stray for and he displayed some initial resource guarding with his foster sibling - he has been undergoing training for this behavior and is making great strides. He has not been tested around cats. He has been around children under 5 and mostly ignores them. Right now, Twister would do best as the only dog in the home, or at the least have his own separate space to decompress. He would likely be fine with fur another sibling, but introductions should be done prior to adoption and then slowly once in a new home to allow him time to acclimate. The very best details: Twister would love nothing more than to be a kept lap dog. Early mornings are met with wiggles of appreciation to be let out of his crate - to which he then backs his fluffy bum up for some dedicated butt scratching - don't you dare stop before he is ready though! Twister is also food motivated - so much so that it can be hard to tell him and the resident lab apart. He is a perfect gentlemen on leash, content to walk alongside you while taking occasional sniff breaks. The only toy he has shown an interest in is the kickball in his video - which he deftly popped into submission. His perfect night is spent by your side snuggling on the couch, please don't forget the blanket and maybe some popcorn.

Overview:
The German Shepherd Dog, a truly iconic breed, originated in Germany in the late 19th century, primarily for herding sheep. They are easily recognizable by their athletic, medium-to-large build, typically weighing between 50-90 pounds, with a distinct double coat that can be black and tan, sable, or solid black. Known for their intelligence and loyalty, German Shepherds possess a remarkably trainable and courageous temperament, making them exceptional working dogs in fields like police and service work. While generally good with families when properly socialized, their high energy levels and need for mental stimulation make them unsuitable for apartment living without significant daily exercise. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as degenerative myelopathy, underscoring the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary care.
