Description
Dog Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler (short coat). Meet Sheila! Sheila is an adorable 4-month-old Cattle Dog puppy with all the intelligence, awareness, and enthusiasm the breed is known for. Her greatest strength right now is how connected she is to her person. She's already showing classic Velcro Cattle Dog traits, keeping track of where her human is at all times. Her eye contact is fantastic, and she's eager to learn. She's just beginning her training and is already making great progress with basic skills like sitting, walking on a leash, and keeping all four paws on the ground when greeting people. Right now, she's so excited to meet everyone that she wants to launch herself into every hello, but she's very responsive to redirection and learning quickly. Sheila settles beautifully in her crate with very few interruptions and is doing wonderfully with her potty training. Sheila is not currently spayed, but will be before adoption. As you'd expect from a young Cattle Dog, Sheila has plenty of drive. She loves romping with the biggest dogs in her foster home, happily chasing them during zoomies. She reads other dogs well, respects their signals, and isn't a pest when they ask for space. Like all Cattle Dog puppies, Sheila will need continued training, structure, and appropriate boundaries as she grows. She's currently working on channeling her excitement in appropriate ways. If her foster mom isn't paying attention, Sheila may occasionally leap up and try to grab a shirt or fingers in play, but she's very responsive to guidance. The good news? She hasn't shown any interest in nipping at ankles—a definite bonus for a Cattle Dog puppy! Sheila is a bright, engaging little pup who will thrive with an active family committed to continuing her training. With consistency and positive guidance, she's going to grow into an exceptional companion.

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
