Estimated to be a year old (and barely, if that), Pattie has a calmness thatâs surprising for such a young dog. Sheâs content with the simple things in life: a leisurely walk, a roll in the grass, a few belly rubs, and a tasty treat shared with someone she loves. Pattie walks beautifully on leash and greets people with a softly wagging tail, as if sheâs already decided youâre a friend. She doesnât demand attention. She simply enjoys being near you, and somehow that makes her even more special. Pattie didnât demonstrate that she knows her basic commands just yet, but sheâs attentive, eager to please, and should enjoy learning with positive reinforcement and a little patience. Weighing about 40 pounds, Pattie has a naturally slender build and an easygoing personality that makes spending time with her feel effortless. While Pattie has a wonderfully calm demeanor at the shelter, sheâs still around a year old and may become even more playful as she settles into a loving home and her confidence grows. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics.
