Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Meet Lady, a sweet and gentle 2-year-old female Pit Bull/Labrador mix who is ready to find her forever home! Lady is a petite, calm, and affectionate companion who loves to be close to her people. Though she may be a little shy at first, she quickly comes out of her shell, seeking cuddles and affection from those she trusts. Lady is excellent on a leash and responds wonderfully to basic commands, making walks and training sessions a pleasure. She enjoys playing with toys and always comes promptly when called. This well-mannered girl is also potty trained, showing great adaptability and good behavior. Lady has a calm and curious personality, is treat-motivated, and is good with women. While her interactions with other dogs are still being evaluated, she seems dog-friendly and would likely thrive in a peaceful, loving home environment. She would do best with adopters who are patient, gentle, and ready to provide the affection and reassurance she needs to continue blossoming. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
