Description

Dog Breed: Chihuahua / Mixed (medium coat). Meet Frankie, the year and a half old chihuahua mix. Frankie arrived to the Shelter after his previous guardian’s landlord said that there were no pets allowed. It took a few days for Frankie to warm up but once he does, he is easy to pet and handle all over. Frankie has not lived with a dog previously but met some and coexisted hanging out in a room. A home with another easy going dog may be a fit after a meet and greet at the Shelter. Frankie has lived with children previously but due to his shy nature, we are recommended older kids in the home. Frankie has a history of being crate trained in his previous home. Frankie is almost house trained, occasionally having pee accidents in his previous home. Adopters should plan to reward Frankie for pottying outside and let him out frequently to help him perfect this new skill in his adoptive home. In his previous home, Frankie’s favorite activity was going for walks. He is calm when riding in the car. He also knows “sit” and would love to bond with his new family through positive reinforcement based training. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.
