Description
Dog Breed: Yorkshire Terrier Yorkie (medium coat). Please read the pet description IN IT'S ENTIRETY before applying. Thank you for your cooperation. STRAY - NOT YET TAKING APPLICATIONS – NOT YET AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION NEW INTAKE 8/6/2026: Sir Winston Pickles - male - approx 5 years old - 8.6 EMACIATED pounds - Yorkie Reason for intake: Sir Winston Pickles was wandering around the U-Haul business in the 2200 block of Hollywood, Shreveport. The owner of the business reached out and we took him in. (The son of the owner gave him the name Sir Winston Pickles... which we LOVE!) He was covered in fleas and had very overgrown nails. The finder trimmed his nails and after three baths, finally was able to get rid of the fleas and dirt. The poor dog is so emaciated. He's a skeleton under his coat. We have the dog. Animal control has been notified. If this is your dog, you must CONTACT US for reclamation instructions. Stray hold will be up Wednesday, August 12th at 4pm, at which time he will go to our vet for vetting. He is not chipped, nor was he wearing a collar. NOT TAKING APPLICATIONS: Many dogs, particularly breeder, hoarder or senior dogs, can have multiple medical issues that need addressed. Additionally, sometimes we take in young puppies requiring multiple vaccinations and/or quarantining. In this particular case, we are not yet taking applications either due to age or possible illness or some other reason. We will post when s(he) is ready for adoption. In the interest of fairness, EARLY application submissions will NOT be considered. Please note… we cannot respond to messages/emails, etc., on dogs that are NOT yet available for adoption. Please wait until the dog is available for adoption. We will post him or her on Facebook in our Adoptable Dog Album pinned to the top of our page which you can follow at this link: .facebook/share/1B46skRWF5/ OR you can keep checking our website at .roadtorescuela. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding. “The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.” ~ Gandhi Be responsible ~ Always spay/neuter, keep your dogs on heartworm prevention, vaccinate against disease... and if you bring a pet into your life, commit to that pet for life. Blessings.

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
