Description
Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Watch out, world - here comes Pixie! Pixie is estimated to be 6 months old, and she is a bubbly bundle of fun. She has had an amazing transformation in foster care, and she is oh-so ready to take on the world, one treat at a time. Pixie is an adventurous and curious girl who needs an active family who can keep up with her zest for life. Pixie is a petite pup and currently weighs about 14lbs. We think she will be under 30lbs when fully grown. We're not totally sure what Pixie's breed is, but we suspect she may have some bully and herding breeds in her mix. Pixie came to us as a stray from an overcrowded shelter in NorCal. She was found with a fractured leg and a horrible case of demodex, a non-contagious skin condition. She was able to get surgery at UCD to fix her leg, and her skin has cleared up with the help of monthly flea/tick preventatives. Pixie's leg is now all healed, and she is slowly being acclimated to normal activity. She will get to live a normal life and will be back to racing around in no time! Pixie is a goofy girl who provides endless entertainment with her hilarious antics. She has been such a good girl for her crate rest, but now she is eager to explore and make new friends. She loves making new human and dog friends and gives the best kisses! Pixie would be a great companion for someone who wants an active buddy for weekend adventures, but also enjoys cuddles on the couch and playtime in the backyard. Pixie is still learning all of her basic manners and needs a family dedicated to continuing her training. Pixie LOVES other dogs, and we think she would do best in a home that has a playful dog for her to romp around with. She might do okay as an only dog, but she would love to have lots of dog friends to play with often. Pixie has been living with cats and is still learning that they don't want to wrestle with her. She may do okay living with confident, dog-savvy cats, but would be too enthusiastic for shy or older cats. Pixie could be a wonderful addition to a family with kids 10 years and older. Pixie has been doing very well with her housetraining, but is still learning, so her new family will need to be consistent with continuing her training. Pixie is crate trained and is content to hang out in there for short periods during the day and overnight. Due to her energy level, Pixie wouldn't be a good fit for apartment life. Pixie is such a sweet and fun little girl, and she is going to bring so much joy to her new family. If you think that might be you, submit an application today! Pixie's adoption fee is $350. Apply to adopt here! form.jotform/52017002013129/ Applications are also available on the website (.yolospca) It can take up to 3-5 business days to hear back once you have submitted an application. The Yolo County SPCA is a private, not-for-profit, foster home-based animal rescue organization and does not have a shelter. All our animals awaiting adoption are in foster homes. Dogs are tested for heartworm, started on preventatives, and given a DAPP vaccination. Adult dogs are up to date on their vaccinations prior to adoption. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
