Description
Dog Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier (medium coat). Pip is a 10 week old (as of 7/20/26) male mixed up mix of a mix. We know that mama is a bully/bird dog type (think Weim or Lab) but we can't be sure about dad other than size and color lead us to believe there is maybe a bit of herding dog along with hound in there somewhere! Pip is approximatley 9 pounds, and we expect him to be a 30-40 pound adult. Coming to us all the way from Southern Virginia, Pip is one of 8 babies who were born to a mom that wasn't being taken care of at all - in fact, she was skin and bones when she was saved, yet she kept her puppies fed and healthy. Pip is a sweet boy, playful, social, happy and determined to get and keep your attention. He would likely do well in many places, though he would need to meet resident human and canine kids. Cats are unknown, but considering he is about cat sized, it shouldn't be hard to help him learn manners around them. Puppies are hard work, and Pip is no exception. He will need crate training, house training, obedience training, and plenty of socialization. This means taking him out and about to experience the world before he comes to think of it as a scary place with weird noises. He needs to be introduced to a zillion people and given all the tools he needs to become a lovely adult. Its a lot, we know, but so worth it to experience raising a baby! Especially one as adorable as Pip! Pip will be ready for adoption in a couple of weeks. If you are interested in him, please fill out the application

Overview:
The American Staffordshire Terrier, often affectionately called an "AmStaff," is a breed with a fascinating history, originating in 19th-century England and later refined in the United States. Physically, they are medium-sized, muscular, and agile dogs, known for their powerful build and distinctive wide smile. Their short, stiff coat comes in a variety of colors and patterns. In terms of temperament, AmStaffs are generally intelligent, confident, and highly loyal to their families. They possess a strong desire to please and can be quite affectionate. While they can make excellent family companions and often get along well with children, early socialization and consistent training are crucial due to their strength and inherent protective instincts. They are adaptable and can thrive in various living situations, including apartments, as long as they receive adequate daily exercise and mental stimulation. Health-wise, they are generally robust, but some individuals may be prone to hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as certain heart conditions.
