Dog Breed: Labrador Retriever / Mixed (medium coat). Meet Duke, the 11 month old male lab mix. This short, squat guy is certainly a mixed breed and we aren’t sure exactly of what. We can tell you that he is 100% cuteness. Duke lived in a home with a rat terrier and was reported to love playing with other dogs. He also lived with a 4 year old child and did well. Duke can be excited with new people – sometimes jumping up and being a bit exuberant during interactions. He is described to be house trained but primarily spent his time outdoors. Duke’s favorite toys are tennis balls. Duke knows “off”, “sit”, and “stay”. He is still learning and would love to bond with his new guardian through positive reinforcement based training. Duke enjoys riding in the car and is ready to join you on all your adventures. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.
