Description
Dog Breed: Labrador Retriever. Foster or Forever home wanted, meet Mars!!!! Mars is a 15 month old, 60 pound yellow lab who recently found himself at a local shelter as a stray. Sadly, he did not have a microchip and no one came looking for him. And we can’t figure out why!!!!! Mars is a great young dog who is dog and people friendly. He does well at dog parks, loves walks, fetch, toys and even shopping! He is housebroken, crate trained and has basic indoor skills. He could use further improvement on his leash skills (as he pulls a bit) and probably shouldn’t be trusted with counter stuff as he’s still a very curious young dog. Mars is looking for an active family to share adventures and a life time of love with. If Mars sounds like the dog for your family, please fill out an application at labradorsandfriends. Mars is located in Southern California.

Overview:
The Labrador Retriever, a beloved and highly popular breed, originated in Newfoundland, Canada, where they were initially bred to assist fishermen by retrieving nets and stray fish. Physically, they are medium-to-large dogs, known for their strong, athletic build, short, dense, weather-resistant double coat (commonly seen in black, yellow, or chocolate), and their distinctive "otter" tail. Temperamentally, Labs are celebrated for their friendly, outgoing, and good-natured disposition, making them exceptional family companions. Their intelligence and eagerness to please contribute to their trainability, though they do require consistent exercise to prevent boredom and destructive behaviors. While adaptable, their energy levels make them more suited to homes with yards, or highly active families, rather than apartment living, unless daily extensive exercise is guaranteed. Regarding health, Labs can be prone to certain conditions like hip and elbow dysplasia, and some eye conditions, so responsible breeding practices are crucial. Overall, their loyalty, versatility, and affectionate nature firmly establish the Labrador Retriever as a wonderful addition to many households.
