Description
Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: $150. Meet Fantasia! Fantasia is a gorgeous 6-year-old brindle Terrier mix, weighing around 50 pounds, who originally came to us as a transfer from the Cedar Rapids shelter. After being adopted, Fantasia unfortunately found herself back in our care following an altercation with another dog in the home. We are continuing to work with her, learn more about her triggers, and better understand what environment will help her feel safe and successful. While this was a setback in her journey, it doesn't change the sweet girl we've come to know and love. Fantasia can be a little reserved at first and has experienced a lot of change, so she is looking for a patient adopter who will give her time to decompress, build trust, and settle into a predictable routine. She absolutely loves getting outside for walks, exploring, and taking in all the important smells along the way! As we continue learning more about her interactions with other dogs, we want her next placement to be thoughtful and focused on what is best for everyone involved. She is fully vaccinated, spayed, and ready for another chance at finding the right forever home. She needs someone willing to be patient, continue working with her, and understand that sometimes a great dog simply needs the right environment to truly thrive. Fantasia has so much love and companionship to offer, and we're committed to helping her find the home where she can finally settle in and blossom.

In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
