Description
Dog Breed: Beagle. Adoption Fee: $300.00. Cornbread is an incredibly affectionate and very silly little guy. He is a Velcro beagle who just wants to be with his human and so he will follow you from room to room. If he is napping, he will wake up and go look for where you are. He loves affection and to be held and cuddled. Cornbread also seems to enjoy looking at himself in the mirror. Mirrors fascinate him. He's a very confident fellow and is eager to meet new dogs, people, and do new things. His play style is funny and entertaining when he throws stuffies into the air and chases them around all by himself. On walks he is vocal about letting you know that he MUST meet the other dog or person walking past. And he loves kids! On walks he gets very excited about kids and squirrels - but definitely for different reasons. So his keash walking skills are good but he will pull when there is something specific to get excited about. His housetraining is coming along but mornings are still a challenge. He seems to do much better for the rest of the day and evening. Cornbread is definitely motivated for food and doesn’t yet understand boundaries if you’re eating food where he can get it. This is still a work in progress. We would love to see Cornbread get a family who has a canine companion and who is ready to shower him with affection. He is heartworm positive and should be ready for a sleepover the weekend of 8/21.

Overview:
The Beagle is a beloved scent hound with a rich history, originally bred in England for hunting hare and rabbit. Their most recognizable physical traits include a sturdy, compact build, adorable floppy ears, and soulful brown or hazel eyes. Beagles typically weigh between 18-30 pounds and stand 13-16 inches tall, featuring a smooth, dense coat that comes in a variety of tri-color or bi-color patterns. In terms of temperament, they are known for being exceptionally friendly, curious, and outgoing, making them wonderful companions for families with children and other pets. However, their strong prey drive and inclination to follow interesting scents mean they require a securely fenced yard and consistent leash training. While adaptable, their need for exercise and tendency to vocalize (howl!) makes them less ideal for small apartment living unless daily walks and mental stimulation are guaranteed. Regarding health, Beagles can be prone to certain conditions like hip dysplasia, epilepsy, and intervertebral disc disease, making responsible breeding and regular veterinary check-ups important.
