Theo is a 6-year-old, 66-pound German Shepherd who is equal parts handsome, sweet, and easygoing. This mellow guy has quickly proven what a wonderful companion he is and would make an incredible addition to a lucky family. Theo is fully potty trained and crate trained and settles easily into a household routine. He walks beautifully on leash, staying right by your side, and is happy to keep pace whether you're enjoying a leisurely stroll or heading out for a jog. He also rides wonderfully in the car, making him an ideal road trip buddy! Theo loves being with his people and has made an excellent work-from-home coworker. He can be a little shy when first meeting someone, but once he's comfortable, his affectionate personality shines through. He especially seems to adore children—his tail starts wagging whenever he hears kids nearby, and he loves helping pick up his foster family's daughter from school. On walks, Theo does well around most animals and responds nicely to a "leave it" command. He is reactive toward cats, however, and would be happiest in a cat-free home. Theo is remarkably quiet, well behaved, and incredibly sweet. He'd be a wonderful family dog or an equally great companion for an adult household that enjoys walks, adventures, and having a loyal German Shepherd by their side. If you're looking for a gentle, devoted best friend who is already trained and ready to fit right into your life, Theo might just be your guy! He is neutered and up to date on vaccinations. His adoption fee i $300. All Second Chance Dog Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, are up to date on vaccines and have microchips prior to adoption. Adoption fees vary depending on age of dog. Fees help Second Chance Dog Rescue cover spay/neuter costs, vaccinations, medical treatments, food and supplies. Please go to .secondchancedogrescue and complete an application today! All dogs live in private foster homes until they are adopted.

Overview:
The German Shepherd Dog, a truly iconic breed, originated in Germany in the late 19th century, primarily for herding sheep. They are easily recognizable by their athletic, medium-to-large build, typically weighing between 50-90 pounds, with a distinct double coat that can be black and tan, sable, or solid black. Known for their intelligence and loyalty, German Shepherds possess a remarkably trainable and courageous temperament, making them exceptional working dogs in fields like police and service work. While generally good with families when properly socialized, their high energy levels and need for mental stimulation make them unsuitable for apartment living without significant daily exercise. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as degenerative myelopathy, underscoring the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary care.
