Description
Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (medium coat). Rockyâs Second Chance! Rocky is a handsome 5-year-old, nearly 70-pound Pit Bull who finds himself in the shelter through no fault of his own. He arrived as an owner surrender alongside his brother, and after having a home and family, shelter life has been a big change for him.Rocky has previously lived with both dogs and cats. His previous owner shared that he enjoys playing with cats and may chase them, but his intentions are playful. Rocky simply does not always realize just how big he is! He has also lived with children and was reported to do well with them. Since coming to the shelter, Rocky has not yet met another dog or child, so any future introductions should be slow, proper, and supervised.Rocky is a strong boy who will need a confident handler to help him continue learning good leash manners. We are already working with him on his walking skills, and with consistency, patience, and positive guidance, Rocky has so much potential to become a wonderful companion.Behind that big body is a dog who deserves someone willing to see past his shelter kennel and give him the chance to be part of a family again. Rocky has already lost the home he knew. Now he is waiting for someone to give him the second chance he deserves.Could you be Rockyâs person?

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
