Dog Breed: Hound / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 350. Marble is a roughly 2-year-old, 55-pound sweetheart with a gentle, easygoing personality. He absolutely loves people and is happiest when he’s getting attention, cuddles, or simply hanging out with his favorite humans. He’s also a big fan of food and is always happy to make new friends! Marble gets along wonderfully with dogs of all sizes and has a calm, low-energy nature. He’s quiet, affectionate, and very gentle, making him an easygoing companion. He is potty-trained and crate-trained, is learning basic commands, and is just beginning to discover how much fun toys can be. Marble is still working on gaining a little weight and building his strength, but he’s making wonderful progress and enjoying all the good things life has to offer. He’s ready for a loving family who will give him the safety, affection, and forever home he deserves. This sweet boy has so much love to give. Could Marble be your new best friend? A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
