Description
Dog Breed: Basenji / Chihuahua (short coat). Welcome Pebbles to CCPAL Rescue. She came in with her mom Layla. She is 12-weeks old and she weighs about 5 or 6 pounds. We think full grown would be 25 pounds or less. She has beautiful markings and the most adorable expressions. She was fun to take photos of at the photo shoot. She is good in a crate, good with other dogs, playful and sweet. She is smart and trusting of people. She would be great with a family that is moderately active to highly active. She would be best with someone that is not gone all day everyday and can spend some time with their puppy to keep her social and to finish up her puppy training. She would be fine with children. We like them to be 8 or older as older children can be taught to respect and be careful with their dog. She is sturdy and would make a great walking companion. She is social and would be fine taking her out places that have lots of people or a doggy daycare. She is up on her vaccinations and will be spayed soon and ready for her forever home. She is currently in Texas and can be adopted locally or we can work with one of the wonderful transporters to get her to Washington, Portland, Minnesota, Vermont or all along the East Coast. Her adoption fee is $600 and transport is $200. Rhode Island and Massachusetts are not states we adopt to because of the regulations imposed by these states. Overview:
The Basenji, often called the "barkless dog," is a fascinating breed originating from Central Africa, where it was historically used for hunting. Physically, they are medium-sized, graceful dogs with a distinctive short, fine coat that comes in various colors, often with white markings on the chest, feet, and tail tip. Their most recognizable features include a wrinkled forehead, alert pricked ears, and a tightly curled tail. Temperamentally, Basenjis are known for being intelligent, independent, and sometimes aloof, exhibiting a cat-like fastidiousness. They can be good companions for active families or individuals but require consistent training and socialization due to their high prey drive and independent nature. While generally suitable for apartment living if adequately exercised, their energy levels demand regular walks and mental stimulation. Health-wise, Basenjis are typically robust, but responsible breeders screen for conditions like Fanconi Syndrome and Progressive Retinal Atrophy.
