Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier (medium coat). Treats, Trust & Lots of Love Meet Gunter—A Gentle Guy with a Big Heart Gunter is a sweet 5-year-old boy with a darling face and a heart full of love. He may be a little timid at first, but once he feels comfortable, you'll discover a gentle, affectionate guy who really just wants to be near his people. Gunter is treat motivated and loves spending time with his humans. Once he's decided you're his friend, he may even climb right into your lap for some extra love—because apparently being a lap dog is a perfectly reasonable career choice! He's a mild leash puller, but he's calm and non-reactive around other dogs. His easygoing nature makes him a lovely companion for walks and quiet time alike. Gunter will do best with someone willing to give him a little patience and encouragement as he builds confidence. With love, consistency, and continued training, this sweet boy has all the makings of a loyal best friend. If you're looking for a gentle soul who will happily trade treats for cuddles, Gunter is ready to meet you. Gunter recently met some social dogs at our shelter and did fine. He wasn’t ready to play, but we hope that as he gets more experience in our shelter playgroups, he’ll be ready to show us his silly side with other dogs. Looking for a buddy for your dog? Bring him/her to the shelter for a meet and greet and see if we're a match! Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
