Bear – Chocolate Male, 2ish, 80 lbs. Meet Bear — A Gentle Giant Looking for His Forever Home! Bear is an absolutely gorgeous chocolate Labrador, approximately 2–2½ years old and weighing in at a big, handsome 80 pounds. But don’t let his size fool you—this boy is a total sweetheart. ❤️ Bear loves tummy rubs, giving kisses, car rides, camping, and being close to his people. More than anything, he wants to be part of a family. He has never shown aggression toward other dogs, a baby, or any of the people he has met. He’s also not much of a barker, making him an especially easygoing companion. We’re working with Bear on crate training, and he does wonderfully in his crate when needed. That said, if given the choice, Bear will happily choose being right beside his humans every time. Bear walks nicely on leash, although we’re continuing to work on his pulling. He has also already selected his favorite trees for his bathroom breaks—which, according to Bear, is clearly an important part of the adoption process. Bear does have a strong interest in bunnies, squirrels, and lizards, so he will need to remain leashed when outside an appropriately fenced area. A home without felines is probably best. With continued training and guidance, we’re confident this handsome boy will continue to make great progress. Now Bear is ready to leave his uncertain past behind and find the family he has been waiting for—a family who will love him, keep him safe, include him in their adventures, and remind him every day just how wonderful he is. Bear is a gentle giant with a huge heart, and we believe he will make an incredible family companion and loyal best friend. Bear is waiting. His forever family just needs to find him. Overview:
The Labrador Retriever, a beloved and highly popular breed, originated in Newfoundland, Canada, where they were initially bred to assist fishermen by retrieving nets and stray fish. Physically, they are medium-to-large dogs, known for their strong, athletic build, short, dense, weather-resistant double coat (commonly seen in black, yellow, or chocolate), and their distinctive "otter" tail. Temperamentally, Labs are celebrated for their friendly, outgoing, and good-natured disposition, making them exceptional family companions. Their intelligence and eagerness to please contribute to their trainability, though they do require consistent exercise to prevent boredom and destructive behaviors. While adaptable, their energy levels make them more suited to homes with yards, or highly active families, rather than apartment living, unless daily extensive exercise is guaranteed. Regarding health, Labs can be prone to certain conditions like hip and elbow dysplasia, and some eye conditions, so responsible breeding practices are crucial. Overall, their loyalty, versatility, and affectionate nature firmly establish the Labrador Retriever as a wonderful addition to many households.
