Description
Dog Breed: Cocker Spaniel. Doyle is a goofy, active social butterfly who is convinced that everyone he meets is his new best friend! This 1-year-old Cocker Spaniel mix loves people, dogs, adventures, and absolutely anything that makes him feel included. He gets along well with other dogs both in the home and out on walks. He's happiest when he can play chase with his canine friends, although he's still learning to recognize when another dog isn't in the mood to socialize. His enthusiasm can also be a little much for smaller children, and while previous reports indicate that he's good with kids, his excitement could easily knock over a young child. Older children would likely be a better fit. Doyle is still very much a puppy at heart. He's curious, constantly on the move, and wants to investigate everything around him. He loves balls and stuffed toys and would happily accompany his person just about anywhere. He's learning basic manners and responds well to commands like sit, stay, no, and back. He's even learned to step back from the door when asked so his person can get through! Walks are one of Doyle's favorite activities. He walks nicely on leash, although his nose can sometimes take over and send him off on a scent-following expedition. He's also easily distracted when eating and does best with free feeding rather than being expected to finish a meal all at once. Doyle is doing well with house training when kept on a consistent schedule, although he'll need supervision to prevent accidents. He's not destructive and prefers being near his people, so his foster hasn't pushed crate training. He may have some separation anxiety, as he can howl when he realizes he's alone or can't see his people. Doyle is a happy, friendly, goofy guy who wants to experience everything life has to offer—and he'd love a family willing to bring him along for the adventure! They were rescued from a shelter in New Mexico. Meet and greets are by appointment only. An approved application is required to schedule a meeting. Check out our events page for upcoming open adoption events! We have no additional back story or update for this dog at this time. When we do, it will be updated here. This is all the information we have currently. Approved Applicants may make the adoption fee payment by clicking donate above. Partial adoption fees will not hold a dog. If upon meeting the dog of your choosing at your scheduled pickup time you find that you aren't a good match, your deposit will be fully refunded. Adoption fees include vaccines up until time of adoption, microchip, spay/neuter and 1st 30 days of free pet insurance. We are not affiliated with MetLife pet insurance. (you have to sign up for the insurance or it will not go into effect). Adoption fees help cover the medical care of the animals while he or she waits for a new home, as well as food and transportation costs. These fees help to provide care for the other animals in the shelter or rescue group who may have medical bills that are much higher than any possible adoption fee. The money also acts as a donation to help support the organization as a whole, allowing the group to continue its efforts to rescue and rehome pets. The dogs in our care are fostered in Colorado, Texas, and New Mexico. While all dogs are picked up during our scheduled times, sometimes transport dates change due to unforeseen circumstances. Overview:
The Cocker Spaniel, a beloved breed with roots in the United Kingdom, was originally bred as a gundog to flush out woodcock. They are instantly recognizable by their medium size, typically weighing 20-30 pounds, their luxurious, often wavy coat (which comes in a variety of colors), and their long, expressive ears that frame their gentle, eager-to-please eyes. Known for their merry and affectionate temperament, Cockers are generally good-natured, intelligent, and relatively easy to train, making them an excellent choice for families with children and even first-time dog owners. While adaptable, their moderate exercise needs can be met with daily walks and playtime, making them suitable for apartment living as long as they receive sufficient mental and physical stimulation. Prospective owners should be aware of certain health considerations, including ear infections (due to their long ears), eye conditions like cataracts, and hip dysplasia, which highlight the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary check-ups.
