Description
Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (medium coat). Meet Rooney! Rooney is a sweet, more reserved boy looking for his next home. He has shown us that it takes some time for him to get comfortable around new people but once he is comfortable with you will make a great couch potato friend or friend to lay next to you while you work! We don't have any history on Rooney so we are looking for adopters that are ready to take things at his pace and are excited to learn about his personality as he settles in. We think Rooney could live with another dog if starting out with complete separation, slow introductions and a dog that is into a more exuberant playstyle! We don't know if he has lived with cats before but think he could do well starting out with complete separation and slow introductions. We don't know if Rooney has lived with kids but think he could do well with children that can give him space as he settles in and once he is more comfortable will be able to help with his training plan!

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
