Description

Dog Breed: Siberian Husky (medium coat). Meet Lilliebelle *BONDED PAIR* Some dogs come into the shelter looking for a second chance. Lilliebelle came here after losing the person she knew as home, and through all that change, she has had one familiar source of comfort by her side: her sister, Roxy.Lilliebelle is a 2 year old spayed female Husky weighing approximately 71 pounds. She is currently overweight, and her new family will need to help her safely work toward a healthier weight through proper nutrition, exercise, and routine. The most important thing to know about Lilliebelle is just how deeply attached she is to Roxy. The two sisters are extremely bonded, and Lilliebelle becomes very anxious when separated from her. We do not know whether this separation anxiety was present before losing their owner or whether the major change in their lives has made their bond even stronger. What we do know is that they find comfort and security in each other, and they are not comfortable being apart.Because of this, Lilliebelle and Roxy are being adopted together as a bonded pair. We understand that adopting two Huskies is a big commitment, but after everything these girls have already lost, we feel keeping them together gives them the best chance at feeling secure and finding their way back to happiness. At this time, we are still learning about Lilliebelle. Her history with other dogs besides Roxy is unknown, as are her interactions with cats and children. These are things her future family will need to be prepared to introduce thoughtfully and appropriately.Lilliebelle would do best with someone who understands Huskies and is knowledgeable about the breed, including their exercise needs, intelligence, independence, vocal nature, and tendency to form incredibly strong bonds with their people and companions. Her future family will need patience, commitment, and an understanding that helping her adjust will take time.Lilliebelle has already experienced one of the hardest things a dog can face: losing her home and the person she loved. Thankfully, she still has Roxy. Now these two beautiful sisters are hoping someone will see that they are worth taking a chance on together. They have lost enough. Now they deserve the opportunity to find their forever home together.

Siberian Husky

A.K.A.: Husky, Arctic Husky, Chukcha, Chukchi, Chukchi Sled Dog, Sibe, Sibes, Sled Dog, Snow Dog
Overview:

The Siberian Husky is a striking and beloved breed, originating from Northeast Asia where they were bred by the Chukchi people for pulling sleds over long distances in harsh conditions. Physically, they are easily recognizable by their medium size, thick double coat (available in various colors and markings), and often captivating blue or bi-colored eyes. Their temperament is typically friendly, outgoing, and playful, making them generally good with children and other dogs. However, their independent and sometimes stubborn nature, coupled with a strong prey drive, means consistent training and secure containment are essential. While affectionate, their high energy levels and need for significant exercise make them less suitable for sedentary lifestyles or tiny apartments; a house with a securely fenced yard is often preferred. Health-wise, they are generally robust but can be prone to certain conditions like hip and elbow dysplasia and eye problems such as cataracts and progressive retinal atrophy. Overall, a Siberian Husky thrives with active families committed to meeting their exercise and mental stimulation needs.
