Description
Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed. Our sweet Kalani is almost ready for her forever home! It was early June when, thankfully, one of our friends was at the shelter helping out. A person came in to surrender the tiniest bundle of fur. She and shelter staff agreed the shelter was no place for a 4-week-old puppy. She took her home to foster. Kalani (Hawaiian for the royal one ) is now just over 3 months old, still tiny - weighing in at almost 5 pounds, and has had her shots. We're thinking she is a Chi/Terrier mix. She is scheduled for spay in early September. Our girl is all puppy, she's playful and the best cuddler! She gets along great with dogs and cats and LOVES people. She's crate trained and doing well with potty training. We haven't started leash training. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
