Description
Dog Breed: Great Dane. Maidens, VA | Transport may be available Yoki is a 7-year-old neutered Great Dane who is looking for a very specific kind of home—and we're hoping the right person is out there who will see the wonderful dog he is beyond his biggest challenge. Yoki loves his people. He wants their attention, enjoys being close, and has been described by his current family as an almost perfect house dog in every other way. He is house trained, can be trusted loose in the home, has no separation anxiety, doesn't get on the furniture, and has no resource guarding. He knows how to give up his toys when asked and is gentle with children. The challenge is other dogs. He is not a dog who can casually pass other dogs on a walk or live in an environment where loose dogs may approach him. Because of that, his ideal home needs to be very carefully selected. We are looking for: An experienced foster or adopter who fully understands severe dog reactivity/aggression A large, securely fenced property where he can exercise without encountering other dogs OR someone with a proven history managing this type of behavior in a highly controlled environment Someone willing to continue working with his behavior team and maintain appropriate safety measures Yoki has also lived around cats and farm animals. He may chase cats, deer, or squirrels briefly, but has historically responded to recall and returned. ❤️ And beyond the dog issue? Yoki sounds like an incredible companion. He loves people. He's house trained. He's well behaved in the home. He's affectionate. He doesn't suffer from separation anxiety. He can relax without being crated. He's gentle with children. We know asking for a home this specific makes Yoki's search harder. But hard doesn't mean impossible. Somewhere out there is a person with the experience, property, and understanding to give this big guy the safe, controlled life he needs. Yoki deserves that chance. Overview:
The Great Dane is an impressive and regal breed, often dubbed the "Apollo of Dogs" for its dignified stature and noble appearance. Originating in Germany, where it was historically bred for hunting boar, this giant breed is renowned for its immense size and striking presence. Physically, Great Danes are characterized by their tall, muscular build, short coat (available in various colors like fawn, brindle, black, blue, and harlequin), and expressive eyes. Despite their formidable size, they possess a surprisingly gentle and affectionate temperament, making them wonderful family companions. They are known for being patient with children and generally get along well with other pets. While their size might suggest otherwise, Great Danes can adapt to apartment living if provided with sufficient daily exercise, as they are not overly energetic indoors. However, prospective owners should be aware of certain health considerations, including a predisposition to bloat (gastric dilatation-volvulus), hip dysplasia, and certain heart conditions, necessitating careful breeding and regular veterinary check-ups. Overall, a Great Dane offers a loving and loyal addition to the right home.
