All of our dogs are in foster homes and not in one single kennel location. Adoption events is the best way to meet several of our dogs at once. Gidget is a 7- to 8-month-old black and tan German Shepherd female who came from a local shelter so there is not much known about her past. She is a shy girl who has trouble warming up to people, but dogs she would follow all day any day. She is on the smaller side but still has some growing to do. With her shy temperament it is hard to coax her outside to work on bathroom habits. However, whenever the opportunity arises, praise is highly given. She sleeps well in her crate at night once you're able to get her in. She can be very treat motivated once she figures out how good they taste and will sometimes do a sitting pose for them. With her shy temperament she has a tendency to stiff arm when picked but no other issues. It takes her awhile to warm up to folks and sniff their hand, but she will come around. She is working on leash manners and confidence so small short walks to build up her confidence would do her well. Gidget would do well in a home with another confident dog who can teach her the ropes and help come out of her shell more. She is a sweet girl who just needs time, love and attention and she will be your best companion. She will not do well with cats. Small dogs unknown. Overview:
The German Shepherd Dog, a truly iconic breed, originated in Germany in the late 19th century, primarily for herding sheep. They are easily recognizable by their athletic, medium-to-large build, typically weighing between 50-90 pounds, with a distinct double coat that can be black and tan, sable, or solid black. Known for their intelligence and loyalty, German Shepherds possess a remarkably trainable and courageous temperament, making them exceptional working dogs in fields like police and service work. While generally good with families when properly socialized, their high energy levels and need for mental stimulation make them unsuitable for apartment living without significant daily exercise. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as degenerative myelopathy, underscoring the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary care.
