Description

Dog Breed: Great Pyrenees (medium coat). #A5792168 Say hello to Marvin , a 1-year-old Great Pyrenees mix who is already a gentle giant of a pup! This big, fluffy boy looks like a cloud come to life, but he has a large-and-in-charge personality to match his size - bright, bubbly, boisterous, and bursting with puppy enthusiasm. Marvin loves saying hello with a big jump, so he’ll need a little guidance and structure to help him learn polite manners and become his best self. He’s smart and highly motivated by treats, which should make teaching all those puppy basics a fun and rewarding process, but be prepared for a little challenge from this enthusiastic boy! An experienced owner or someone willing to invest the time and energy into training will help Marvin thrive. Underneath all that puppy exuberance is a happy, sweet boy who is ready to grow into an amazing companion with the right family! Will that be with you? -1 year 1 month old cream Great Pyrenees mix -55 pound neutered male, but may get bigger as he gets older -may need the standard round of shots and preventatives before he can go home with you, but the shelter can likely help with this! -came to the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center on 7/29/26 as a stray -big, bright personality - bouncy and outgoing, guaranteed to keep you on your toes! -needs all the puppy basics to be his best self, but smart and a great listener, plus loves treats, so should listen well MARVIN’S VIDEO: .youtube/shorts/Nekrg08vUc4 For more information, contact volunteer Lor at lorunitedhopeforanimals ---- Look up this or other animals at Baldwin Park Animal Care Center animalcare.lacounty.gov/view-our-animals/ Use their unique ID NUMBER. Great Pyrenees

A.K.A.: Pyrenean Mountain Dog, Patou, Chien de Montagne des Pyrénées, Pyrenean, Big White Dog, Bear Dog, Gentle Giant, Great Pyr, Pyr
Overview:

The Great Pyrenees is a majestic and ancient breed, originating in the Pyrenean mountains between France and Spain, where they served as formidable livestock guardians. Physically, they are large, powerful dogs, easily recognized by their thick, double coat, typically white (though sometimes marked with badger, grey, or tan), and a distinctive "double dewclaw" on their hind legs. Despite their imposing size, their temperament is generally calm, gentle, and remarkably patient, making them excellent companions. They possess a natural protectiveness, which translates to a watchful eye over their families and property. While loving and tolerant with children, their size and barking tendencies make them less suited for small apartment living; a home with a yard is ideal. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, patellar luxation, and certain eye conditions, emphasizing the importance of responsible breeding. Their independent nature also means they require consistent, positive reinforcement training.
