Description
Dog Breed: Chihuahua (short coat). A5787400 Meet Amanda , a 9-year-old Chihuahua girl with a gorgeous copper coat that shines like a penny in the sunlight! This petite little grandma inexplicably arrived at the shelter as a stray with an injured leg, and we can’t imagine how this delicate senior managed to fend for herself out there. Thankfully, Amanda is safe now, but what she really deserves is a warm, cozy forever home where she can spend her golden years surrounded by love and comfort. She may have a luxating patella, a common knee issue in small senior dogs, but don’t let that fool you - this sassy little lady gets around just fine! She’s also a social butterfly with her fellow small dogs and is currently happily kenneled with some canine friends. If you have a soft spot for tiny grandmas with big personalities, Amanda is ready to steal your heart! -9 year old red short haired Chihuahua -9 pound female, not spayed, but the shelter has chosen to defer this due to her age. She should be adopted on a health waiver, just to be safe! -other than the spay, Amanda is up to date on all shots and preventatives and ready to go home with you today! -came to the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center on 7/4/26 as a stray - she was found in the field with an injured leg which has since been treated and healed -sweet and playful, loves to roll around -lots of personality in a tiny package -could make a fabulous older sister to other pups you may have - does best w/other littles AMANDA’S VIDEO: .youtube/shorts/oWj4d5sYqM4 For more information, contact volunteer Lor at lorunitedhopeforanimals Photo Credit: Rafael Diaz Look up this or other animals at Baldwin Park Animal Care Center animalcare.lacounty.gov/view-our-animals/ Use their unique ID NUMBER. Overview:
The Chihuahua, a captivating breed known for its diminutive size, boasts an ancient and somewhat mysterious origin, with most theories pointing to Mexico as its birthplace, potentially descending from the "Techichi," a small companion dog of the Toltec civilization. Physically, they are easily recognizable by their small, compact bodies, large expressive eyes, and erect ears, appearing in both smooth and long-coated varieties, showcasing a vast array of colors and markings. Despite their tiny stature, Chihuahuas possess a big personality; they are often described as spirited, alert, and fiercely loyal to their owners, sometimes displaying a bold and confident demeanor. While their small size makes them exceptionally well-suited for apartment living, they thrive in homes where they receive ample attention and mental stimulation. They can be good family pets for older children who understand how to interact gently with a small dog, but their delicate build makes them less suitable for boisterous toddlers. Regarding health, Chihuahuas can be prone to certain conditions like patellar luxation, heart problems, and dental issues, making regular veterinary check-ups crucial for their well-being.
