She’s gentle, calm, and her very favorite activity is napping. She is the perfect little companion for a quiet home. She does not want to go for walks. She wants to eat, snuggle, sleep and repeat. She is affectionate if you go to her and pick her up. She is not the kind in our environment who will seek you out. She is content with whatever affection you wish to give. She would really appreciate couch time. She's had a few rough years but despite all that, Queenie has no ill will towards the world at all. Let's briefly talk age. Queenie is AT least 10. She may have simply had a tough life. She may be older. Based on all we know about her physically, my best guess is between 10 and 14. There is no way to know. How we all wish they could talk and just tell us but they can not so we do the best we can in estimating. Must have: A calm, patient home with someone who simply wants to give a very senior dog a home. Exercise: Minimal — short walks at best or time in the yard with you are plenty for this easygoing girl. Best with: A quiet household; she can coexist peacefully with other calm or older dogs. She does not need a canine companion but is happy to have a calm one or two. Not ideal for: Busy homes or active families — Queenie prefers peace and routine. Energy level: Low — she’s mellow, content, and happiest curled up in a comfy bed. Queenie is spayed, fully vetted, and recovering beautifully from her dental and spay surgery. Queenie is an exceptionally quiet little dog. We don't know whether we are beginning to see some age-related cognitive changes, whether her limited vision and hearing make her more withdrawn, or whether this is simply Queenie's way of coping with the busy rescue environment around her. Our veterinarian has not been able to definitively say that she has cognitive decline, and neither can we. What we do know is that Queenie isn't looking for excitement. She is looking for peace — a predictable routine, a soft bed, gentle hands and a quiet place where she can simply be. She learns her familiar surroundings and gets around them well, but she is not an adventurous little dog and does not seek out activity. You'll often find Queenie tucked into a quiet corner or curled up in a fluffy bed. There is zero aggression of any kind in this dog. Good with dogs: Yes — calm, older dogs are fine; she doesn’t play but enjoys companionship. SOS Romeo is her current bestie. They often ignore each other while sharing the same bed. Good with kids: No children under 15. Cats: Unknown. Fun fact: Queenie is an old soul, but her heart is full of love. Medically - Queenie has a small hair loss spot on her back about 3" long down the spine. It is starting to fill in again and we do not know what happened. Her hair is thinner as is common with older dogs but I do not think she is going bald. It was most likely simply from not being groomed for a very long time. She is blind in her right eye. Her left eye still has pupil responses, and we believe she has some vision in that eye. Also note, Queenie takes carprofen 1/2 25 mg twice per day for lumbosacral disease. She is much better on this medication. This generic non steroidal anti inflammatory runs .60 cents per day on 1800petmeds. Per month for Queenie it will be approximately $18. She has also had a major dental. She has healed well from the dental and eats kibble mixed with water and canned food with no problem. She is a good eater but you do need to put the bowl right in front of her. She also loves her medication. We give them to her in American cheese and she is ready to gobble it right up. Potential Adopters Dogs can’t drive - and since we’re busy taking care of them, we can’t either! Please check your potential BFF’s location and make sure you’re comfortable traveling to meet them.
