Description
Dog Breed: Beagle. Adoption Fee: $350. Sonja is the sweetest little love you could imagine. She is a smart and friendly Tricolor Beagle. At a little over 1.5 years old, she has a very chill but still puppy like energy that could never leave you feeling loveless. Although she is VERY shy at first when it comes to people, once she warms up to you she loves to be pet, played with and loved. She is a lap dog for sure. Sonja is loyal, curious and will snuggle up with you but will also be right on your heels at all times! Sonja came to her foster home scared of most noises (especially loud percussion sounds like thunder and the evil garbage truck that had her hiding under the bed) but through lots of practice and love we have gotten alot of her noise sensitivity under control. She does still dart away from noises like passing cars and construction when we go for walks. Sonja is currently being fostered in an apartment and has done very well adjusting. She is fully house trained, she struggles to go potty on the leash unless it’s a really long walk but when she gets to the fenced in dog area where she can be off the leash she goes right away! Sonja is an amazing girl and deserves a good, snuggly and loving forever home! She seems to like other dogs and chasing the neighborhood stray cats! No cats! She would do well with a yard and some agility training! She is very smart and loves learning new tricks. Adopt Sonja today!

Overview:
The Beagle is a beloved scent hound with a rich history, originally bred in England for hunting hare and rabbit. Their most recognizable physical traits include a sturdy, compact build, adorable floppy ears, and soulful brown or hazel eyes. Beagles typically weigh between 18-30 pounds and stand 13-16 inches tall, featuring a smooth, dense coat that comes in a variety of tri-color or bi-color patterns. In terms of temperament, they are known for being exceptionally friendly, curious, and outgoing, making them wonderful companions for families with children and other pets. However, their strong prey drive and inclination to follow interesting scents mean they require a securely fenced yard and consistent leash training. While adaptable, their need for exercise and tendency to vocalize (howl!) makes them less ideal for small apartment living unless daily walks and mental stimulation are guaranteed. Regarding health, Beagles can be prone to certain conditions like hip dysplasia, epilepsy, and intervertebral disc disease, making responsible breeding and regular veterinary check-ups important.
