Description
Dog Breed: Hound / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 550. Rusty is the sweetest puppy boy with a gentle, loving spirit and the softest eyes. Born May 29, 2026, we suspect he may have some hound in him, but his mix is a mystery. What we do know is that Rusty has a heart full of sweetness and loves nothing more than being by your side. He is affectionate, playful, and curious, but he also has a wonderfully gentle nature. Rusty loves his people, adores other dogs, and would thrive in a home with a friendly canine companion to play with and learn from. He does wonderfully with our young kids and is learning how to calmly enjoy all the excitement that comes with little humans. Rusty is soaking up puppyhood and eager to learn. He is learning to sit for treats and is making great progress with potty training, successfully using puppy pads while continuing to learn that outside is the place to go. One of the things we love most about Rusty is his ability to enjoy the little things. He is learning to self-regulate and is perfectly content lounging on his cot in the yard, soaking up the sunshine. When he gets a little too warm, he’ll find himself a nice, shady spot and happily continue his afternoon lounging. He loves to sniff and explore, often proudly discovering sticks and leaves along the way, and he has even become my little gardening companion. Rusty is playful and still very much a puppy, but there’s something about him that feels like an old soul. He has the sweetest, gentlest eyes and a quiet way of making you want to slow down and sit beside him. He is looking for a family who will continue guiding him through puppyhood with patience, consistency, and lots of love. A friendly canine companion would be wonderful for him, and a securely fenced yard is required so he can safely explore, play, and enjoy all of his favorite outdoor adventures. If you’re looking for a sweet little shadow with an old soul, gentle eyes, and a heart full of love, Rusty might just be your boy. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
