Microchipped, up-to-date on core vaccines and takes monthly flea/tick/heartworm prevention Good with dogs; untested with cats and kids Maizie (formerly Fortune at the shelter) was a last-minute Urgent List pull from PG County, and we couldn’t be happier that this sweet girl is now safe and discovering just how wonderful life can be. She was scared and shut down, and this former momma dog spent her time hiding in her kennel at the shelter. Now that she knows she is safe, she is coming out of her shell and showing us just what a wonderful dog she truly is. And honestly? Maizie is AMAZING. That’s exactly how she got her name! This sweet soul is happiest when she’s loving on her people. Maizie is a certified snuggling expert who would happily spend all day, every day curled up in your lap. Her people are her world, and she wants nothing more than to be close to them, soaking up affection and giving plenty right back. Maizie is also the captain of chill. She has fully embraced the art of relaxing and believes every good day should include plenty of lounging, cuddling, and, naturally, a full-body massage. She doesn’t ask for much—just love, attention, and someone willing to report for massage duty. But Maizie isn’t just a professional cuddler—she’s also smart, food motivated, and eager to please. In just a short time in her foster home, she’s already learning house rules and basic commands, doing wonderfully with crate training, and working on her place command. She patiently waits while her foster mom gets her workouts done and cooks, and she is quickly proving just how much she can learn when given the chance. Before we know it, she’ll be better trained than most! At this rate, we’re pretty sure she’s going to start giving the other dogs pointers. Maizie is also a lovely walking companion. She walks very well on leash and, while squirrels and rabbits naturally catch her attention, she’s easily redirected with a subtle leash correction and quickly gets right back to walking. When out in public, you’ll often find Maizie calmly sitting by her people, checking in for reassurance while quietly taking in her surroundings. She is such a polite girl, but she’s also very observant. She’s not an in-your-face kind of dog, but rather a quiet companion who is a steady, calming presence. She’s easy to take everywhere because she can calmly settle at your feet, follow your lead, and simply enjoy being by your side. After everything Maizie has done as a momma and everything she has been through, she’s ready for someone to make her the center of their world. She’s looking for a home where she can be loved, cherished, and included—and where there’s plenty of room on the couch (and preferably a lap!) for this incredibly sweet girl.
