Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed. Adoption Fee: 500. Meet Helen! Helen is a beautiful 1–3-year-old sweetheart weighing 52 pounds, and she's ready to find the loving family she's been waiting for. This gorgeous chocolate brown girl is as cute as can be! She was on a countdown clock to be euthanized, and we just could not let her story end there. She's so sweet and deserves a change! She enjoys taking walks, loves spending time outdoors, and is friendly with both people and the other dogs at the shelter. They have not observed any type of food aggression or resource guarding. She is not a jumper, so she is safe around kids. Helen has a gentle, affectionate personality and would love nothing more than a family to call her own. Helen deserves a soft bed, a warm home, and someone to love her forever. She can't wait to find her happily ever after! Helen is HW positive and is currently undergoing treatments. She will be spayed and up to date on vaccines before she travels to us in September. She will be ready for final adoption by late September. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics.
