Dog Breed: Poodle (Standard) / Mixed (medium coat). Meet Sabrina! Sabrina is a beautiful, athletic 6 year old Poodle who really enjoys interactions and playtime. She met one dog from a distance and gave a growl to say ‘no thanks’ to further introduction, and walked away. She was clear in expressing her feelings and didn’t escalate to lunging/barking, which means she’ll thrive as an only dog. Sabrina has a beautiful bounce in her step and is very social with people, however she may have a bit too much bounce for younger children. Minors should be actively supervised to be sure everyone is comfortable and safe. It’s helpful to have experience with positive reinforcement, but a willingness to learn will be a great fit! Sabrina is an athletic girl who freely jumps up on tables here at the shelter. There’s a very good chance she will be a counter surfer in a home, which means she will not only be tempted by tasty food if left out, she can easily scale a counter to get the food. The best way to live with a counter surfer is by using positive reinforcement (reinforcing behaviors we like, such as all paws on the floor) and effective management (setting up the environment for success, such as keeping food out of reach at all times, and/or gates barriers to prevent access to the kitchen. When it comes to activity, Sabrina enjoys playing with toys as long as humans are part of the game, and loves leashed outings. She has shown herself to be comfortable and independent, and will seek one-on-one time with her human friends. A combination of regular exercise and mental enrichment, such as interactive games, food puzzles, sniffing, and learning new tricks, will help fully meet her needs while preventing boredom. And, positive reinforcement and effective management will help Sabrina learn important skills, create a strong bond to her guardian, and help build confidence, all while having fun. Remember, her gorgeous coat can become matted without regular grooming, so a good relationship with a groomer will help keep her coat healthy. Please come meet this sweet, elegant pup on Monday/Tuesday/Thursday or Saturday by appointment, from 12N-3:30 pm. We are closed to the public on Wednesdays.
