Description
Dog Breed: Siberian Husky (medium coat). Adoption Fee: 385.00. MEET JUNEAU! At just 2 years old, this beautiful girl just moved to a foster home after spending time in boarding. While in boarding, Juneau had MANY doggy friends and clearly knows how to make friends! She also absolutely loves her people. Give her a treat and she'll sit nicely and take it ever so gently—because apparently this gorgeous girl has manners, too! And here's another important thing to know about Juneau: she LOVES the water! If there's a puddle, pool, lake, or anything remotely splashable nearby, Juneau may be ready to make it her new favorite place! Juneau does have a strong prey drive, so cats are definitely NOT her thing. She previously spent time in a shelter with cats and made her feelings pretty clear. She also hasn't had a lot of leash experience yet, so she is a strong puller and will need someone willing to help her learn her leash skills. We're still getting to know this beautiful girl, but one thing is already obvious: Juneau is confident. Juneau is playful. Juneau loves her people. Juneau has doggy friends. Juneau is ready for her next adventure. Now she just needs someone who will say... "Juneau, you're coming HOME." Could you be her forever family?

Breed overview
Siberian Husky
A.K.A.: Husky, Arctic Husky, Chukcha, Chukchi, Chukchi Sled Dog, Sibe, Sibes, Sled Dog, Snow Dog
Overview:
The Siberian Husky is a striking and beloved breed, originating from Northeast Asia where they were bred by the Chukchi people for pulling sleds over long distances in harsh conditions. Physically, they are easily recognizable by their medium size, thick double coat (available in various colors and markings), and often captivating blue or bi-colored eyes. Their temperament is typically friendly, outgoing, and playful, making them generally good with children and other dogs. However, their independent and sometimes stubborn nature, coupled with a strong prey drive, means consistent training and secure containment are essential. While affectionate, their high energy levels and need for significant exercise make them less suitable for sedentary lifestyles or tiny apartments; a house with a securely fenced yard is often preferred. Health-wise, they are generally robust but can be prone to certain conditions like hip and elbow dysplasia and eye problems such as cataracts and progressive retinal atrophy. Overall, a Siberian Husky thrives with active families committed to meeting their exercise and mental stimulation needs.
