Hi, my name is Mocha, but my foster family calls me Teddy because they say I’m just like a teddy bear—cuddly, sweet, and the absolute BEST kisser! I’m an 8-week-old, 9 lb male Shepherd/Cattle Dog mix currently living with my foster family and my brother, Cappuccino. We’re having an absolute blast learning how to become the best dogs in the world! I love wrestling with my brother, but I’m also independent enough to play with my toys and explore on my own. The TV always grabs my attention, and I’m told football season is coming and there are BALLS involved—so I’m officially IN! Hanging out with my humans is also one of my favorite things. For such a young guy, my potty training and crate training are already going very well! I’m confident, happy, smart, affectionate, and expected to grow into a medium-sized adult. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
