Dog Breed: Cane Corso Mastiff / Mixed. Meet Mabel Mabel is an 8-month-old Cane Corso mix and seriously one of the sweetest girls you’ll meet. When she first came to us, she was a little unsure of people and didn’t quite know who she could trust. It didn’t take long for her to come out of her shell, and now we’re seeing the loving, happy girl she was always meant to be. ❤️ Mabel does have cherry eyes, but thanks to everyone who donated toward her care, she’ll be getting those fixed! We’re so thankful for everyone who helps us give dogs like Mabel the care they need. Being a Cane Corso mix, Mabel is going to be a big girl when she’s fully grown. She’s also still very much a puppy, so she’ll need a family who understands that training, consistency, and patience are going to be important as she grows. She has so much love to give and has already shown us how quickly she can learn to trust. Now she’s ready for someone to continue showing her just how good life can be. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
